How to Get to Goris by Minibus, Car, Taxi, and Transfer

If you think you’ve seen everything Armenia has to offer, consider the city of Goris. It’s the second-largest city in the Syunik region and one of the oldest in Armenia. Tourists are drawn here not only by the stunning rock formations but also by its historical landmarks. In short, there’s plenty to see. This article will discuss how to reach Goris quickly and affordably.

Goris is located in the Syunik province in southern Armenia. It is 239 km from Yerevan by road and 173 km in a straight line. You can cover this distance by:

• Minibus – the most budget-friendly option;
• Car – the fastest method;
• Transfer (taxi) – the most comfortable choice.

Let’s look at each option to make your decision easier.

We know that many of you prefer to travel to Armenia by plane. Unfortunately, Goris is a small city and does not have its own airport. However, you can book a flight to Yerevan and arrive at Zvartnots International Airport.

How to Get from Zvartnots Airport to Goris

So, you find yourself at Zvartnots Airport — what’s next? You have several options for getting to the city.

Option 1: Public Transport

This is ideal for those looking to save money on transportation.

• Route 1: Wait for the 201 bus at the airport and take it to the Yeritasardakan – B bus stop in Yerevan. Then, walk for 2 minutes to the Yeritasardakan – A stop and catch marshrutka (minibus) 19 or buses 14, 22, or 46. The M1 metro line will also take you to Central Railway Station – B. After that, walk for 8-10 minutes to Southern Bus Station and take marshrutka 607, which goes directly to Goris.
  

  Travel Time: 1 hour + 4 hours
  Cost: 300 + 100 + 2,500 AMD (approximately $0.80 + $0.25 + $6.70 = $7.75)

• Route 2: If you arrive at Zvartnots Airport early (before 7:00 AM), you can take this route. Take the 201 bus to France Square (Mashtots Ave). After waiting for 11 minutes, transfer to bus 1 to reach Northern Bus Station – B. From there, board marshrutka 611, which will take you to Goris in about 6 hours and 5 minutes.
  

  Travel Time: 1 hour 10 minutes + 6 hours 5 minutes
  Cost: 300 + 100 + 2,500 AMD (approximately $0.80 + $0.25 + $6.70 = $7.75)

Helpful Tip! Keep in mind that marshrutka 611 runs only once a day, departing from Northern Bus Station at 8:30 AM.

Option 2: Privat Transfer

If you miss the public transport options and value comfort, consider taking a transfer from Zvartnots Airport to Goris.

This minibus travels from Yerevan to Kapan, making a stop in Goris. It departs from Northern Bus Station once a day.

Departure Time: 8:30 AM
Travel Time: 6 hours and 5 minutes
Cost: 2,500 AMD (6.25 USD)

Helpful Tip! You can reach Northern Bus Station in Yerevan by public transport or taxi.

Minibus No. 607

This minibus goes directly to Goris without any stops along the way. It departs from Southern Bus Station twice a day.

Departure Times: 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM
Travel Time: 4 hours
Cost: 2,500 AMD (6.25 USD)

Pay Attention! Departure times for minibuses may vary and depend on traffic conditions.

For those eager to see the “Zangezur” sculpture as quickly as possible, driving to Goris on your own or a rented car is a great option.

To do this, you need to take the E117 highway. The distance of 239 km can be covered in approximately 3 hours and 56 minutes.

Of course, travel time depends on the day you choose to go and whether you want to make long stops along the way. For instance, you might want to stop for a photo op with Mount Ararat in the background or take an exciting tour of Areni (which we highly recommend!).

Another route is via the M10 and E117 highways. This route takes longer, covering 296 km or about 4 hours and 33 minutes. However, along the M10, you can visit the legendary and stunning Lake Sevan. As a little secret, you’ll likely want to stay there for at least a day, so it’s wise to book accommodation in advance.

The final option for reaching Goris, and the most comfortable one, is by transfer.
