One day trip around Batumi

On this route, you will visit the largest fortress in Georgia, see tea plantations, a waterfall, and a stunning panorama of the Adjara Mountains and Batumi.

Gonio Fortress

Gonio Fortress is about 10 kilometers from the center of Batumi, near the sea coast.This is the largest fortress in Georgia, the earliest layers of which were built by the Romans in the 1st century AD. According to written references, the fortress walls were built by the Byzantines, Persians, Genoese, and Turks.

Almost the entire old fortress of the XIII century with 18 towers has been preserved. In the museum on the fortress's territory you will see many interesting archaeological exhibits. The entrance ticket costs 3 lari.

Gonio Cross

After walking around the fortress, the driver will take you to the observation deck above Gonio. Within half an hour, you will go through the serpentine in the green mountains of Adjara. On the way you will see tea plantations and subtropical forests. A panoramic view of Batumi, the sea, mountains, and surroundings is visible from the Gonio Cross observation deck. 

Andrew the Apostle Waterfall

After Gonio Cross, the driver will take you back to the seacoast. You will go towards the Turkish border and stop in Sarpi. Here, right by the road, you will see a beautiful waterfall flowing down from the mountain and a monument to St. Andrew the Apostle (2008).

The way back to Batumi will take about 30 minutes.
