This route passes along one of the most beautiful roads in Georgia, the Georgian Military Road. Every few kilometers, the mountains become more severe and high, and the views become more and more fascinating.
Tbilisi - Ananuri: 65.3 km
Your first stop will be the Ananuri fortress above the Zhinvali reservoir. Turquoise water, clouds, and mountain peaks โ here you will make great pictures. The fortress itself is also interesting. One of its towers was built in the 13th century.
Ananuri โ Gudauri View Point: 60 km
After Ananuri, the driver will take you to the Gudauri View Point (Ganisi). Along the way, you will see snow-capped peaks, waterfalls, grazing sheep, and mountain rivers. The Monument, which is called the Arch of Friendship and was built in 1983, is interesting for its colorful mosaic frescoes, but the most important thing is the breathtaking view of the mountains.
Then the route will continue through the Gudauri ski resort.
Panorama Gudauri โ Kazbegi (Stemantsminda): 28 km
It would seem that there is nowhere higher. But you will go further, pass through the Gudauri ski resort, and make the next stop in Kazbegi (Stepantsminda). If you are lucky with the weather, you will see the majestic Five-Thousander, the Kazbek stratovolcano. Be sure to dine at one of the restaurants with mountain views (for example, at the Rooms Hotel or the restaurant in Khareba).
If you wish, you can go up the mountain to the Gergeti church (on foot, free of charge, in about an hour, or by special transport for an additional fee).
Kazbegi โ Tbilisi: 153 km
On the way back, you will once again admire the unique mountain landscapes of the Georgian Military Highway.
